Addressing at the conference, comrade Viengphone Keokhunsi - Member of Vientiane City Party Committee, Principal of Vientiane Capital School of Politics and Administration said that the reality in the operation of the political system in both Vietnam and Laos in recent years has proven the promotion of the People's supervisory role over cadres and party members crucial. This is not only instrumental in successfully implementing the guidelines and policies of the Party and the state but is also an important condition to contribute to building a capable and efficient contingent of cadres and party members at all levels. The international scientific conference "Promoting the People's role in supervision over cadres and party members" aimed at the following objectives: (i) To create a scientific forum for scientists, leaders and managers, cadres and civil servants, students to exchange and share research findings related to the Conference topic with a view to improving research and teaching capacity at the Ho Chi Minh City Cadre Academy and at Vientiane Capital School of Politics and Administration. (ii) To propose solutions to promoting democracy, improvimg mechanisms and effectively implementing the People's supervision over cadres and party members, thereby contributing to consolidating, building and improving the quality of the operation of the political system in Ho Chi Minh City and in Vientiane Capital today.

During the preparation process, the Conference Organizing Committee received 44 scientific papers that met the requirements, goals and topics of the Conference. The articles focused on the key contents of the Conference topic and provided full scientific and practical arguments to promote the people's role in supervision over cadres and party members. in the current period; directions and solutions to improving the efficiency of this work in the future.

The conference focused on exchanging and discussing issues: (i) analyzing and clarifying the role, meaning and importance of the People's supervision activities over cadres and party members nowadays; (ii) specifically assessing the current situation of the people's supervision over cadres and party members; (iii) proposing specific and practical directions and solutions to improving the effectiveness of the people's supervision over cadres and party members.

Concluding the conference, Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Van Y - Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee, Vice Rector of the Ho Chi Minh City Cadre Academy assessed that after more than 3 hours of work with a sense of responsibility, frankness, democracy, and objectivity, the Conference achieved the proposed objectives. The 44 papers published in the conference proceedings demonstrated the determination, high sense of responsibility and concerns of the authors revolving around the conference topic "Promoting the people's role in supervision over cadres and party members. The discourses and opinions expressed at the conference focused on clarifying the goals and subtopics of the conference. Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Van Y concluded the Workshop as follows:

Firstly, the Conference affirmed the position, role, and importance of promoting the People's supervision role over the political system in general and over the cadres and party members in particular in both Vietnam and Laos today. The People's supervision over cadres and party members will greatly contribute to promoting socialist democracy in both countries, thereby creating conditions to promote comprehensive development of the country. In particular, promoting the People's supervision role over cadres and party members will contribute to building and rectifying a clean and strong party and political system; building a contingent of qualified, capable, reputable and brave cadres and civil servants.

Secondly, the Conference also clarified the guidelines, policies and mechanisms on implementing the People's role in supervision over the cadres and party members in both countries. At the same time, it analyzed and clearly pointed out the results as well as the shortcomings and limitations in the process of implementing regulations related to promoting the People's supervision role today.

Thirdly, the discourses and opinions by the scientists, researchers and lecturers at the Conference also proposed solutions to improving the quality and effectiveness of implementing the People's supervision role over the contingent of cadres and party members in the current period from perfecting mechanisms and policies to organizing and implementing them in practice. That is an crucial material for party committees and governments at all levels to implement the above policy in the leadership and management more effectively.
